Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day, everyone! Along with heart-shaped baking, this month, we’re running away with Daughter, want to make you and The Kooks happy, think you’re like “A Red, Red Rose,” fell a little bit in love with Lykke Li, joined PJ Harvey in remembering the first kiss and day dreamed with The Beach Boys. If you’re anything like us, then you’re always on the hunt for unique and cute kitchenware. Enter: Wood Ink, a handmade line of engraved wooden cutting boards masterminded by husband-wife duo Ryan and Ashleigh. The pair’s designs are nothing short of lovely, with custom initials in hearts, bunting flags, geometric patterns and tree trunks masterfully crafted onto their boards. If you’re anything like us then you adore quirky housewares with a handmade vibe. Whether you made it or someone else did, there’s always something so special about decorating with handcrafted work, which brings us to Patty Dear. The creation of a brother-sister duo, the shop is filled with unique plushes, miniature sculptures and paper art, and given that it’s nearly February 14th, we’re especially taken with their very sweet Valetine’s Day line, which you can spy below.
A while back, we fell for 12 Legs Curiosities’ whimsical faux cupcake decor, which mainly consisted of photo holder sets. Now, nearly a year later, the quirky shop has expanded their lights line from one adorable piece to a full collection, featuring cupcakes that pay homage to icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marie Antoinette, along with various themes and styles. Each set is made to order, with every cupcake created by hand, before being “fake-baked” and attached to a string of 35 mini clear lights. While Valentine’s Day came and went, Julia Pott created a quirky video in recognition of the holiday of love for MTV’s Liquid Television. Standing at under a minute long, the super sweet animated short features a boy critter divulging what he though being intimate was — before he knew what it was — to his girlfriend. Swoon over the vid, which is embellished with funny, yet insanely cute lines like “You go down on the floor, on your hands and feet…but like a crab,” after the jump.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Since we’ve already made a mixtape for you and your sweetheart to sway along with, we thought we’d explore the love-tinged tunes of one of our favorite artists, Ms. Lykke Li. Ever since her debut album, Youth Novels, hit the airwaves, the Swedish songstress has mesmerized us with songs of love and loss with angelic vocals, dance-inducing melodies, and sweet lyrics worthy of notebook scrawls and pen tattoos. Her music explores heartache and break, but it being Feb. 14th and all, we’ll just focus on her über cute tunes both old and new. So get your headphones out and curl up with your honey for a magical Valentine’s Day-apropos soundtrack courtesy of the lovely Lykke Li.
