Matt Saunders is one of our favorite illustrators and it’s not hard to see why. Along with dolling-up logs and slices of wood with imaginative paintings of critters, the Leeds-stationed artist takes to good ol’ fashioned paper as a medium for dreamy illustrations that depict couples, woodland animals, and monsters. Saunders has also been commissioned by some of our favorite bands, creating a music video for Belle & Sebastian, and even illustrating a gig poster for The Cure. Yes, The Cure. So, you could imagine our excitement when Matt — who also goes under the moniker The Rabbit Portal — agreed to give us a glimpse inside his studio and share stories behind the items he seeks out for inspiration. Peek inside Mr. Saunder’s work space, and check out the killer anecdotes behind his favorite books — including a magical story about Tim Burton — after the jump.
If there’s anything we love around here, it’s earthy, painted wooden accents — especially when a killer illustrator is behind the brush. Following-up his adorable illustrated log collection, England-based artist Matt Saunders has dished out these adorable Christmas ornaments that are hand-sawn and dolled-up with darling sleepy expressions. Check them out over at Mr. Saunders’ Etsy, this way.
