With the news making us oh-so-sad as of late, we thought it’d be nice to share some lovely things that brightened our days a bit early. Without further ado, this week we: dreamt of a pretty garden bag to hold our tools, fell in love with Dry Design’s simple + sweet packaging, wanted to fill our home with vintage-tinged felt bouquets, danced around to Camera Obscura’s latest song, wanted to hang darling porcelain planters off the wall and took to the oven to bake up peach crostatas. Along with wearing pastel bows in our hair, revisiting Emma Block’s Style Icon series, channeling Lolita with sunglasses by Tumbleweeds Handcraft and keeping our mugs cozy with these adorable knit sweaters, this week, we made a confetti wall, couldn’t wait to get our tickets to see She & Him + Camera Obscura, sewed an angel collar, learned how to hand print pillows, geeked out over new songs by Conor Oberst and Iron & Wine, and crafted origami hearts for Valentine’s Day. Back in September, we discovered Donkey and Friends, a collective of artists hailing from Austria who make gorgeous DIY paper lamps. Recently, the shop added new designs to their collection featuring woodland animals like owls, rabbits and foxes. We just adore the clean look of the geometric silhouettes, which are hand assembled and lend a beautiful glow to rooms. Spy the latest lamps below, and head on over to Etsy to pick up a piece of your own.
Along with dancing around to this month’s mixtape, spying adorable dresses by Caitlin Shearer and donning temporary tattoos by Julia Rothman, this week, we were mesmerized by a moon phases calendar, couldn’t wait to bake peach and red velvet donuts, dried flowers, wanted to cover our journals with Gemma Correll’s washi tape, swooned over Holly Miranda’s Yoko Ono cover + wanted to make a crochet beard à la Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, and learned how to craft vintage jukeboxes out of paper. Along with decorating packages with pretty stamps, falling in love with these Smiths inspired posters, spying this magical illustration by Lucille Michieli and looking back at the last few days in photographs, this week, we created ornaments out of peanuts, adorned cupcakes with sparkly toppers, learned how to make a whimsical paper tree, had this Elliott Smith Beatles cover + this Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy & Dawn McCarthy holiday tune on repeat, and whipped up some Nutella pie pops — yum! Have a lovely Thanksgiving, everyone! There’s a lot to be thankful for around here: along with my beautiful loved ones, I’m so thankful for all of you who have supported this blog and my little shop — you’ll never know how much that means to me. What are you guys thankful for?
P.S. There’s free shipping over at the shop through Monday with the code PUMPKIN + you can spy daily photos this way. xo, Nicole.
Along with swooning over vintage capes out of the 1960s, spying adorable food art by Henteco and playing with avant-garde makeup stencils, this week, we turned our mini skirts into lace maxis, made pretty heart braids, baked up some cookies-and-milk-style macarons, were incredibly inspired by this Patti Smith and Neil Young interview (we adore this, too), celebrated this week’s election with a playful bookshelf, made chalkboard mugs and painted some autumn leaves. Along with spying Charlotte Mei’s adorable ceramics, wanting to send out these Flower Girls postcards and covering ourselves in Marc Johns’ magical temporary tattoos, this week, we laughed out loud to The Hairpin’s Halloween Missed Connections, dip-dyed our shirts, were mesmerized by Kaye Blegvad’s ceramic hands, learned how to apply ethereal deer makeup, swooned over Eddi Front’s Nick Cave cover, fell in love with a knit birdhouse and made Where The Wild Things Are paper tube puppets.
Last, but certainly not least, this week, we’re most inspired by all of those helping out after Hurricane Sandy. Countless people and animals are without homes, electricity and have lost so much. It’s truly heartbreaking, and our love goes out to those who are in need during this awful time. Join us and help out by visiting the Red Cross and the ASPCA. Thanks everyone, we hope you’re safe and with those you love!
