Wes Anderson’s ability to create whimsical little worlds with swoon-worthy, yet quirky storylines, soundtracks, costumes, and sets has always amazed and inspired me. His latest film — and a favorite around here — Moonrise Kingdom tells the tale of two loners who meet, fall in love, and attempt to run away together in 1965 on the island of New Penzance. Along with Wes, the cast and the crew, film photographer Niko Tavernise traveled to Rhode Island last summer and shot 40-odd stills during the film’s making. What resulted is a truly interesting behind-the-scenes collection, and a must-see for any fan of Moonrise Kingdom or Wes Anderson. Gaze at a few favorites below, and head on over to Mr. Tavernise’s Flickr to check out the entire series.
